New York, May 03  – On Thursday, President Obama headed towards the south of the border to embark a three-day trip to Mexico and Costa Rica to focus discussions on the economic ties between the United States, Mexico and Central America.

This is going to be the fourth trip of Obama, since he became the President. On this trip, he will engage in conversations with  newly installed President Enrique Peña Nieto that are intended to extend beyond security concerns and focus heavily on the economic relationship between Mexico and the US.

While addressing a press conference, Obama said that the focus is going to be on economics. He thinks that much time has been spent discussing issues like security between the United States and Mexico. However, he feels that it has been forgotten that this is a massive trading partner responsible for huge amounts of commerce and huge number of jobs on both sides of the border. Now, this is the issue that he wants to address and he is also interested in seeing  that how it can be improved and maintained, so that economic dialogue can be continued over a long period of time.

Tied in with the economic interests between the two countries is a belief that a strong Mexican economy could help alleviate some of the causes of illegal immigration to the US, a point that will be raised as Congress works on an immigration overhaul.
