New York, June 21  – On Friday morning, the senators will be working to draft a  new immigration border security amendment to the immigration as they fell short late Thursday night.

The debate flared as Senate leaders scramble to hold a vote before the July 4 recess. The legislation gained momentum with lawmakers offering a bipartisan compromise to spend billions on border security while still allowing millions of illegal immigrants to obtain legal status.

It has been revealed by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid that to complete the amendment spearheaded by Senator Bob Corker and Senator John Hoeven, a group of 20 senators have been working feverishly. However, it seemed senseless to keep the upper chamber in session past 10:30 pm as the legislative language likely wouldn’t have been ready until at least midnight.

According to Reid, the amendment has been ready, however, still they want to make sure that it is ready.

Opponents of the proposed border security measure and the underlying Gang of Eight bill criticized the process in which the amendment was being drafted and negotiated behind closed doors. Sens. Jeff Sessions spoke on the floor of the Senate late into the night, calling the Corker-Hoeven measure a political response to a failing piece of legislation, a dramatic, desperate attempt.

The Senate are expected to come back in session at 10:30 am Friday.
